Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Canonical, said during the OpenStack Summit that Ubuntu 12.10 codenamed "Quantal Quetzal" is shipping with the 'Folsom’, the latest version of OpenStack and that an upgrade path for Ubuntu 12.04 has also been made available.
Quantal Quetzal is the first Ubuntu release where Canonical has incorporated the new 'Quantum" networking features of ‘Folsom’ along with multi-cluster support to allow customers deploy thousands of nodes on a cloud. According to Canonical companies like Accenture are already running OpenStack enabled Ubuntu distributions in production mode.
Shuttleworth, showcased Canonical’s Landscape management platform capabilities by live upgrading OpenStack ‘Essex’ to ‘Folsom’ in less than three minutes. The 12.10 has expanded on metal-as-a-service capabilities that support multiple clusters but, there are limitations and according to Shuttleworth there will be bottlenecks in the initial runs of the distribution.
Canonical is currently conducting webinars for Ubuntu 12.10 with Folsom for which you may register through the link here.
