Both the sites, Sis.gov.uk and MI5.gov.uk, were not accessible today morning for about an hour and a half between 9am and 11.30am and Anonymous UK has claimed that it was the one behind the attack and that it was in protest at the treatment of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. The hacker collective said that they took the sites down using distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks as part of #OpFreeAssange movement.
Earlier a hacker going by the name 0x00x00 leaked information about police officers from two British constabularies as a part of the #OpFreeAssange. The hacker had claimed that he wasn’t part of Anonymous team.
TechWeekEurope has spoken with Anonymous and their spokesperson said, “We have a ground force – as in street protest – then the hackers and DDoS crew for online stuff,” the spokesperson said.
“We have found way to circumvent the government’s new security and we are testing different methods.” The spokesperson further added.
