Three Canonical distributions viz. Ubuntu 11.10 “Oneiric Ocelot”, Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS “Lucid Lynx” and Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS “Hardy Heron” have reached end of life today.
Developers over at Canonical are busy working on a custom application package installer and package format that will be specific to new packages written for Ubuntu phone and tablet using the Ubuntu SDK.
Canonical has announced the availability of beta version of its mobile operating system – Ubuntu Touch, for anyone to download and test.
During the latter half of the week, reports emerged that iOS 7 is running behind schedule and may probably be delayed. According to Daring Fireball’s John Gruber Apple has pulled engineers from OS X team to speed up the development of iOS 7. The delay was caused probably due to the late inclusion of Jony Ive in the iOS 7 team.
Canonical has announced its own display server ‘Mir’, which is being developed in-house and will serve as replacement of X.Org Server.

While browsing for clues on Ubuntu Touch Developer preview, we have come across something rather interesting. Canonical has a countdown going on up at Ubuntu.com that indicates a possible tablet announcement sometime tomorrow.
Canonical is working hard towards making Ubuntu the first Linux capable of OpenStack cloud deployments and has revealed that Ubuntu 12.10 is shipping with the latest version of OpenStack.
