The foundation started shipping the version 1.0 of the Pi in February this year with an estimated 200,000 already sold and another million expected to sell before the end of the year as the order limit on Raspberry Pi has been lifted since mid-July. Having sold these many units, the foundation had the chance to gather feedback and workout any improvements.
In a blog post, the Raspberry Pi Foundation said, “Over the next few weeks, we’ll be gradually rolling out a new revision 2.0 PCB which incorporates some of the most popular suggestions.”
The revision 2.0 PCB brings with it quite a few changes including new reset circuit, two GPIO pin changes for JTAG debug support, new connector for a range of boards including a clock or audio codec, two 2.5mm mounting holes to allow for easier mounting among others.
Users can find out which version of the board they are using by issuing the following command in a terminal: “cat/proc/cpuino”. If the board is the original one, it would show 2 or 3 and if it shows 4, 5, or 6 then you have a revision 2.0 board.
No release dates have been confirmed yet by the foundation and there is no way to find out as to when they will be shipped. So, for now Raspberry Pi fans will have to wait until an official announcement is made.
