While talking to reporters during a roundtable at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013, Rubin was of the opinion that consumers nowadays don’t need to go to stores to touch and feel gadgets any more. Information is readily available on the web and consumers can search for reviews, ratings and other information pertaining to the device they are looking to buy.
"They don’t have to go in the store and feel it anymore," said Rubin said notes AllThingsD. According to rumours, Google was to open its stores alongside the launch of Google Glass for general public at a sub-$1500 price tag. Along with the Glass eyewear, Google was also rumoured to sell its pricey and touchy Chromebook Pixel, Nexus range of tablets, Galaxy range of smartphones, among other gadgets.
But, according to Rubin Google’s arsenal of gadgets is still in its infancy and that they don’t need a retail store to push forward the devices. “For Nexus, I don’t think the program is far enough along to think about the necessity of having these things in a retail store,” he said.
When asked if anything of this sort was in the pipeline, Andy said “Google has no plans and we have nothing to announce.”
