It seems that all is not lost for Nokia as its app store – Nokia Store, has managed to hit a whopping 2 billion downloads milestone mark.
Nokia Asha and S40-based handsets account for around 1 billion of the total downloads. Every month more than 80 million applications are downloaded from the Nokia store. Utility-based, Games and Entertainment apps have emerged as the most popular apps among the users. The applications downloaded on Nokia Lumia smart phones are hosted on the Windows Phone store, so, they are not part of the tally.
Action Games tops the list of popular apps with adventure games at the second spot, sports games at third spot, entertainment apps including videos and movies at the fourth spot, followed by utility-based apps at the fifth spot.
Applications from nearly 168 Indian developers were downloaded 1 million times, 40 developers’ applications touched the 10 million mark, 18 developer’s application crossed 25 million and 9 hits the 50 million mark.
The top three developer spots being occupied by Indiagames, Reliance games and Rendered Ideas Softgame Pvt Ltd who accounted for 100 million downloads.
Nokia’s strategy of launching affordably priced handsets with internet access has worked in favor of the company’s success. Nokia’s lowest cost device Nokia 109 priced at ₹1,975 ($32) only also has Nokia store in it.
