Windows 8 increases market share marginally, Windows 7 still atop

Windows 8 may not have received the attention Microsoft would have wanted during its launch but, its market share is definitely increasing – at least that’s what we can see from Net Applications’ latest tracker statistics. For the month of July, Windows 8 managed a 0.3 per cent point increase from last month garnering 5.4 per cent of all web traffic seen.

Windows 7 still rules the scene with over 44 per cent share followed by Windows XP at 37.19 per cent, both of which didn’t see much of a change. Vista is still at the fourth place with 4.24 per cent thus giving Microsoft a whopping 91.7 per cent share in realm of desktop operating systems, which is a little higher as compared to its June standing.

Apple’s Mac OS X flavours – 10.8, 10.7 and 10.6 follow with 3.28, 1.69 and 1.68 per cent respectively. This gives Apple the second place with 7.1 per cent while Linux comes in at third with just 1.2 per cent.

Net Applications’ statistics for Mobile/Tablet operating system indicate that iOS is ruling with scene with top two positions thanks to iPad and iPhone followed by Java Me at third and Android 2.3 and Android 4.1 at fourth and fifth positions.
