The preview version is only available to users in the UK for now but, Microsoft will roll out the service in US and Germany in ‘coming weeks’ and worldwide in ‘coming months’. Announcing the preview version Microsoft noted in a blog post, “By adding Skype conversations to your modern email, Microsoft is creating yet another way for you to connect to the people you care about most.”
Skype for Outlook.com is not going to be a limited service and will be providing all the options – voice calls, video calls as well as messaging. Users will be required to link their Outlook.com account with Skype and once done, they will be prompted to install a plug-in depending on the browser they use. As of now Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox are supported. Contacts can also be merged from Skype with Outlook contacts after the accounts are tied together and plugin is installed.
“With the preview version of Skype for Outlook.com you can enjoy Skype video and audio calls right from your inbox — less typing, more talking!” notes Microsoft.
