The request was raised by Veracode and according to the report BBC’s 399 laptops, 347 mobile phones and 39 tablets were either lost or stolen. If we see the monetary value of the devices laptops were costing somewhere around £1,500 each, mobiles between £100 and £300 and tablets around £1,500 each totaling to a whopping quarter of a million pounds.
Considering that nearly 800 devices were lost and some of them might have been critical devices from where information may have been leaked there is a need for organizations to ensure that their mobile devices and similar gadgets are protected adequately.
“We are very mindful that this equipment is paid for from the Licence Fee and we make every effort to keep theft and loss to a minimum. The BBC has implemented a number of measures to reduce the level of crime”, said a BBC spokesperson.
