Released by Linus Torvalds last night, rc6 is the last but second in the test releases for the Linux 3.9. Torvalds has dubbed the latest release as ‘mostly boring’ work and comes with a lot of small fixes but, nothing quite interesting. Some of the fixes are in networking, small architectural fixes (arm, mips, s390, alpha, tile, x86), some minor filesystem updates and fixes to drivers.

“Things seem to be on track, which means that unless something comes up, rc7 will probably be the last rc as usual,” noted Torvalds in the release announcement.
