Mike Al Mefleh, director of product management at BlackBerry while speaking with Emirate 24|7 said, “We have a very clear road map. The company will launch six additional new devices in 2013.” He also added that the PlayBook will be in addition to these six new devices.
Some sources claimed that BlackBerry might first update the existing PlayBook to OS 10 and then release a new PlayBook. According to other sources, the new PlayBook will be ready as early as the end of second quarter but the Z10 maker is yet to announce the release dates.
The current generation Playbook was released in 2011 but failed to impress users and didn’t manage to sell in great numbers. It featured a 1024 x 600 display and powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. It also boasts a 5-megapixel back camera along with 3-megapixel front facing camera.
Last year BlackBerry released a refreshed Playbook with 4G LTE and HSPA+ connectivity that featured 32 GB of onboard storage space.
