No explanation has been offered for this intriguing pricing. The standard Windows 8 license costs £99 and an upgrade from Windows 8 to 8 Pro also costs £99.
In the US online stores, the prices remained unchanged, i.e. License for Windows 8 costs $120 and one for 8 Pro is available for $200. Another strange thing is that Microsoft allows its customers to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro even from the free beta versions for the £45 discounted price.
“To install Windows 8 Pro, customers must be running Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 Consumer Preview, or Windows 8 Release Preview”, reads a small print on Microsoft’s website.
Recently Microsoft ended its $15 Windows 8 pro upgrade offer. The offer was available to all consumers who purchased a Windows 7 laptop between June 2012 and January 2013.
There has been no official communication from Microsoft regarding the latest price cut on its UK store.
