The State Internet Information Office, China released a statement through The People’s Daily announcing the crackdown. The latest closures were a part of China’s war against pornography which is going on since 2009. China’s recent move is not surprising as it has even blocked western social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

China is not the only country that has taken harsh measures in order to restrict adult content on the web as Iceland is intending to ban internet porn and UK had been deliberating over such a proposal, which eventually got rejected.

Governments in Asia seem to have a particular problem with pornography over the Internet as Indonesia blocked over 1,000,000 porn websites last year while countries like Singapore, Thailand regularly block such adult content.
