LG was interested in the software platform from October of 2012 and had been in talks with HP about a possible takeover which has seemingly materialized. LG will be getting all the licenses and patents, including the ones HP acquired from Palm. LG also mentioned they will continue to offer tech support in the future for Palm clients as well as all those who have webOS devices in their possession.

With this new software platform acquisition it doesn’t mean that LG will try to use it in their smartphones as they have enough problems already with implementing Windows Phone 8, not to mention its recent commitment to FireFox Mobile OS which puzzled a lot of market analysts.

It is certain that the webOS will be used only in LG’s Smart TVs, as formally announced.
