Even though the offer seems to be a ‘Dell Exclusive Offer’ users don’t need to own a Dell system or be working with Dell to avail the new service. New users who sign up for the service normally receive 5GB of free storage space and those who want more space can shell out a few bucks for some extra storage space. Box hasn’t specified how long will this offer continue.
This is not the first time Box has offered huge free space to its new users as in the past they had the same kind of promotion for those who downloaded the Box application for iOS, BlackBerry and WebOS. For example in February 2012 they offered 50 GB of free storage space to users who downloaded the Box iOS app. Just last week Box gave away 25 GB of free storage space to its new users and all they had to provide was a valid email address.
This offer seems to be an attempt to stay competitive while gaining more users as more and more companies like Bitcasa and Mega are offering free storage space that runs in tens of GBs. New users can sign-up using the link here.
