But, things are changing positively. Our readers have been kind enough to spread the word about ParityNews and we did get some major news in the last 18 days bringing with it large number of page views, Twitter and Facebook fan following and inbound links from some major sites like The Wired blog, BGR, The Guardian, BoingBoing, Secktor, etc.
With 2 full months in operation and no formal marketing whatsoever, I would like to put forward some statistics. We had set targets and I am happy that we have achieved them. Considering that there are many other players who are way ahead of us but, I do feel that we have achieved something even though it is equivalent to a fraction of a drop in the vast ocean. Apologies if these numbers don’t impress you.
Unique visitors and page views for first month: 25,000+ and 47,000+
Unique visitors and page views for second month: 63,000+ and 89,000+
We have received inputs from our readers regarding ads on ParityNews. As you can already see on the right side of this post and from the screenshot below that over 50% of our readers DON’t MIND if we place ads. But, there are 33.9% readers who are actually NOT OK with ads. This is a big number for us and me personally.
I am currently managing a team of 3 people with all the expenses like salaries, hosting, and development coming out of my own pocket. I did put up a couple of ads as you might have noticed. But, considering that the site is for our readers I do not want to sideline the 33% who have voted against ads. I myself feel annoyed when I try to read something on a news site and get bombarded with Ads. For this reason, I have taken a call that ParityNews will NOT be serving ads starting this day for now.
We are working on alternate means of revenue generation and hope to find ways that will keep us away from placing ads on ParityNews.
The Road Ahead
Looking at the above statistics and a consistently growing reader base we are optimistic that we are going to achieve more in the next month compared to what we have achieved in the last two. Fingers crossed!!!
