Cupertino has announced that the pre-orders for iPhone 5 will start from September 14 and that it will be coming in two colours, black and white. Apple is going to ship the smartphone from September 21st in all the major countries including the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan. Apple has also revealed that by the end of this year the iPhone 4S successor will be available in 100 countries through 240 carrier partners.
Made up entirely of glass and aluminum, the iPhone 5 is 20 per cent lighter and 18 per cent thinner than its predecessor – the iPhone 4S. some of the major features of the iPhone 5 are 1136x 640 pixel Retina display; 8 megapixel camera; illumination on the back side; 1080p HD video recording capabilities; face detection for up to 10 faces; panorama mode among others.
Phil Schiller while talking about the new display said that software like Keynote, Pages and Numbers have also been updated to make use of the new display. Developers can update their existing apps easily to take advantage of the new display.
The new iPhone packs the power of revamped A6 processor giving out 2x faster CPU performance and 2x faster graphics than the A5. The dock connector is 8-pin as expected. iPhone 5’s battery will give you eight hours of talk time, about 10 hours of video playback, 40 hours of music playback, eight hours of LTE browsing, and 225 hours of standby.
The iPhone 5 is equipped with 4G LTE connectivity and beyond that it also comes with built-in GRPS, EDGE, EVDO, and HSPA – as well as HSPA+ 21, DC HSPA 42.
In terms of the US pricing the iPhone 5 will be available for $199 (16GB), $299 (32GB), and $399 (64GB) when taken on 2-years contract.
