The domain registrar carried out investigation and said that the outage was “not caused by external influences” and that a DDoS or any other form of hack attack weren’t to blame. In a statement the CEO, Scott Wagner, said, “It was not a “hack” and “it was not a denial of service attack (DDoS).”
The Interim CEO also iterated that the downtime was caused due to issues with the internal network. “We have determined the service outage was due to a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables”, he said. Wagner has also said that at no time was customer’s data at any risk.
AnonymousOwn3r had claimed the responsibility for the outage. After the official statement from CEO, it seems that the claim may have been a stunt to get increased attention and that there was little reality in the claims made.
